Immunization Requirements by Age Groups

  • Grades TH/K – 12

    • Diptheria, Tetanus, and Pertussis (DTaP, DTP, or DT) —5 doses; 4 are OK as long as one was given on or after 4th birthday* 3 OK if one was given on or after 7th birthday.
    • Polio (OPV or IPV)— 4 doses; 3 are OK as long as one was given on or after 4th birthday*
    • Hepatitis B—3 doses
    • Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR)—2 doses; must be given on or after 1st birthday*
    • Varicella 
    • (Chickenpox)—2 doses

    *Receipt of the dose up to (and including) 4 days before the birthday will satisfy the school entry immunization  

    Note: Parents must show their child's Immunization Record as proof of immunization. These immunization requirements also apply to students entering transitional kindergarten.

    California schools are required to check immunization records for students ages 4-6 years, upon advancement or admission into 7th grade,  and for students transferring from out-of-state at any age. Parents must show their child's Immunization Record as proof of immunization. 

  • 7th Graders

      • TetanusDiptheriaPertussis (Tdap) —1 dose
        • (Whooping cough booster usually given at aes 11 and up)
      • Varicella (chickenpox) – 2 doses

      Note: This School Immunization Law affects all students in public and private schools. Parents must show their child's Immunization Record as proof of immunization.Transfer students from out-of-state entering any grade level (K-12) in California may need to meet additional school immunization requirements.

    The Alvord Unified School District is a school district headquartered in Riverside, California.  

    The district boundaries encompasses the western portion of the City of Riverside, the eastern portion of the city of Corona, and segments of unincorporated parts of Riverside County, namely. The district was established in 1896, the first elementary school is now Alvord Continuation High School.
