Dr. Resma Byrne
Superintendent of Schools
Dear Alvord Community,
Welcome to the 2024-2025 school year! I am thrilled to serve as your new Superintendent. The Alvord community has always been a tight-knit family, and I am honored to be a part of it. If you haven’t already, I hope you take a few moments to peruse our new website and learn about the wonderful things happening throughout our district and all the support and services available for your children. Our Board of Education has developed a new motto, mission, and vision statement. Our core value is at the heart of our educational philosophy: "Every student by name. Every decision every day." This guiding principle underscores our unwavering commitment to recognizing and addressing the unique needs of each student, ensuring that every decision we make is centered around their individual well-being and success, providing you with the reassurance that your children are in good hands.
I am extremely grateful to our community for its support of Measure J. Thanks to your support, Alvord Unified recently celebrated the announcement of a state-of-the-art La Sierra High School football stadium. Additionally, the K.R. Zack Earp District Stadium at Norte Vista High School now boasts newly upgraded turf, and the track at Hillcrest will also undergo exciting renovations. Our middle schools have been enhanced with beautification efforts and fencing, and our elementary schools have been enhanced with new playgrounds, fencing, and beautification efforts. Safety enhancements and security measures will be completed at all sites this fall. These are just a few examples of the projects and improvements happening across the district. Thank you again for your unwavering support of our students and schools.
Finally, I’d like to share a little bit about myself. I served as the Assistant Superintendent for the Alvord Unified School District since 2022. My main responsibilities included overseeing Preschool to Adult school programs, Career and Technical Education (CTE), Special Education, Student Services, and English Learner Support Services. Before joining Alvord USD, I served as the Director of Assessments and Special Projects in the Walnut Valley Unified School District. I also served as an adjunct professor for Cal Poly Pomona and worked for the University of Miami as a Senior Research Associate with the Miami-Dade County Public Schools. I earned my Doctorate in organizational leadership in 2012 from Cal State Fullerton. I hold a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration and a second Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction, as well as an administrative credential, a multiple-subject teaching credential, and an authorization for bilingual, cross-cultural, language, and academic development (BCLAD).
On a personal note, I am married with four children ranging in age from 7 to 25. I live in the neighboring town of Jurupa Valley, and when I’m not working, I enjoy traveling, running, and spending time with my family.
This year's message is that we are better together and can achieve great things by working together. Alvord is a special place that draws people together, and it's that sense of Alvord pride that makes us unique. By being better together, we can achieve greatness for our students. Thank you again for the warm welcome and the opportunity to serve this amazing community. It’s going to be a great year!
